History
Line: Paracambi
Around 1870, in the municipality of Paracambi, there was a farm, which belonged to a major in the National Guard, Manuel Monteiro de Oliveira Natal. The major, in addition to producing brandy, kept a large number of tapirs on the farm, which were sold to feed the region's slaves. The place became known as “Fazenda das Antas” (Farm of the Tapirs).
To serve the local population that were asking for a stop for the old steam locomotives which left Japeri towards Paracambi, the “Nicanor Pereira Station” was inaugurated, in honor of an important railway engineer at the time.
Years later, the station was renamed “Lages da Central Station”, because the railway, at a national level, needed to differentiate this location from the city of Lages, in the State of Santa Catarina.
