History
Line: Japeri
Local Attractions: Parties at São Sebastião Parish
The station was created to shorten the distance between Queimados and Japeri. The name Austin is a tribute to the English engineer Charles Ernest Austin, who worked on the construction of the first stretch of the Dom Pedro II Railway. Interesting fact: this station boasts the highest altitude in relation to sea level, at 42 meters. Did you know that there was an extension that connected Austin to Santa Cruz? In 1929, with the aim of transporting meat from a slaughterhouse located in Santa Cruz, the “Carlos Sampaio” line was created, which connected the Carlos Sampaio station (the auxiliary line from Centro) to Santa Cruz, passing through Austin. Measuring 34 km, the line had four stations - Cabuçu, Engenheiro Araripe, Engenheiro Heitor Lira and Marapicu (which was never actually opened) - and ended 19 years later.
