Local Attractions: Serra Do Mendanha Municipal Natural Park
The black slaves who worked at Engenho da Serra used the term “Banguê” for a kind of wooden stretcher and leather strips fashioned to carry sugar cane and even corpses. As time went by, the expression “Banguê” became “Bangu”, a name that was later given to Bangu Farm. From this African expression comes the term “à Bangu” or “Bangu style” for something done in haste.
