  • History

    Line: Santa Cruz

Before belonging to Sesmaria do Irajá, in the 16th century, Campo Grande was already inhabited by the “Picinguaba” Indians who occupied Serra do Mendanha and the plain where the neighborhood stands. When the Indians were cast out, Senhor Barcelos Domingos took possession of the region in 1673, the year in which the Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Desterro was built and still stands today. The population grew around the Church due to the presence of a well that provided water for the entire region. On the 53rd anniversary of Emperor Dom Pedro II, the station was opened, as were those of Realengo and Campo Grande as well as the current Santa Cruz line (which, at the time, was planned to reach the Port of Angra dos Reis).
