History
Line: Santa Cruz
Chapel of St. Margaret of Scotland At the beginning of the 20th century, Domingos, an Italian merchant from the district Paciência, owned a rural property called “Sítio Igaratá”. The area was home to a plantation of vegetables and fruits that, after being harvested, were deposited in the family sheds near the Inhoaíba station. These agricultural products were loaded onto trains on the Central do Brasil Railroad and continued on to the docks in the Port of Rio de Janeiro to be later shipped, mainly, to Argentina and Europe. The “Sítio Igaratá” was purchased years later by the real estate company “Kosmos”, which developed streets and built houses for farmers and traders in the region. The station was opened at the initiative of the real estate agency itself as well as the local population.
