History
Line: Deodoro, Japeri e Santa Cruz
Local Attractions: TheTrain Museum and Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium
The station was initially opened to off load workers and materials for the largest railway workshop in the world, built on the grounds of the current Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium. On the premises of this workshop, in 1897, the Practical School of Apprentices was created which gave rise to the Silva Freire School and, years later, in 1984, to the Train Museum, which houses in its collection, among other classic relics, the “Baroneza” - the first locomotive that operated in Brazil.
In 2008, after a law came into force to highlight the importance that the neighborhood has come to have on the national sports scene, the station has added the term “Olympic” to its official name.
