History
Line: Santa Cruz
The former Fazenda Sapopemba, acquired in 1908 by the Ministry of War to build barracks, residences and railway stations, gave rise to “Vila Militar”. This large construction was placed under the charge of Antônio Leite de Magalhães Bastos Junior, a 35-year-old young lieutenant colonel who served in the Engineering Battalion.
The train station “Vila Militar” appeared in 1910 and four years later, less than a kilometer from this station, the “Parada Military” stop was also opened, to serve the population that was occupying lots of land near the region.
Later, when the Santa Cruz line was getting ready to receive electric trains, this small station was relocated to the location where it is today renamed “Coronel Magalhães Bastos Station”.
