History
Line: Deodoro e Santa Cruz
Local Attractions: Baixo Méier (bars and restaurants), João Nogueira Cultural Center (Imperator), Sagrado Coração de Maria Church
Méier came from the farm of Augusto Duque Estrada Meyer, son of Commander Miguel João Meyer, Portuguese of German descent. The region received the pronunciation “may a” by popular will. Augusto Meyer was a chamberlain (chamberlain) in the service of Emperor Dom Pedro II. It was he who knew the clothes and decorations that his majesty should wear, according to the ceremony in question.
When the Emperor's family wanted to build the “Parada do Meyer” stop, Augusto had already passed away. The family then gave up the land for the construction of the station in exchange for just one request: that the place should always be named as such.
Interesting fact - In 1963, the Méier neighborhood received the first Shopping Center in Brazil.
