With the opening of the Dom Pedro II Railway in 1861, the Vila de São Pedro and São Paulo, located in the Paracambi region, showed a marked growth in their agriculture and livestock sectors, due ostly to slave labor. Fazenda dos Macacos, as it became known, grew even more with the arrival of the workers (who went to build the railway) and their families, and gave rise to the first name of the station: Macacos Station. Years later, after a number of name changes, the officialization for “Paracambi” was born from the union of two districts that were melded together to form a single family unit: the seventh district of Vassouras, named Tairetá, and the third of Itaguaí, called Paracambi - this was kept because it was the oldest.
