History
Line: Belford Roxo
The Pavuna-São João de Meriti station is located in two municipalities: Rio de Janeiro and São João de Meriti. This limit is given by the River Pavuna, which passes under the station, necessitating a mezzanine for Pavuna (with integration with the subway) and another in São João de Meriti. The names "Upabuna" and "Miriti" are of Tupi Guarani origin and mean, respectively, dark and dark region and small river. The neighborhood of Pavuna became nationally renowned in 1930 in the samba “Na Pavuna”, by Homero Dornellas and Almirante, considered the public's favorite samba at that year's Rio Carnival.
