History
Line: Belford Roxo
The station was named after Professor Cintra Vidal, owner of the only educational establishment in that areA at the time. The name Pilares has three versions: the first comes from a warehouse of goods that existed nearby and was adorned with large supporting pillars, known as: the Venda dos Pilares.
The other version is that on the old Estrada Real (Royal Highway) de Santa Cruz, which connected Rio de Janeiro to Minas Gerais, and where large shipments of gold passed through, there were small “pillars” around a water source, which were used to tie horses .
Most likely, however, is that the area where the station was built belonged to the parish of São Tiago de Inhaúma, where there were large plantations belonging to Bishop Castelo Branco, and that around 1873 passed into the hands of Francisca Zieze , who donated them to the Brotherhood of São Benedito dos Pilares.
