History
Line: Deodoro, Santa Cruz, Japeri, Belford Roxo e Saracuruna
Local Attractions: Quinta da Boa Vista Park, São Januário Stadium and Luiz Gonzaga de Tradições Nordestinas Center (Northeastern Cultural Fair)
São Cristóvão gained prominence in 1808, with the arrival of the Portuguese Royal Family that adopted the Quinta da Boa Vista Palace as an official residence. The train is an important character in the history of the neighborhood, after all, the railway system helped transform São Cristóvão into the great commercial hub it is known for today.
The neighborhood is home to one of the most traditional clubs in the city: São Cristóvão de Futebol e Regatas - the only football club in the world permitted by FIFA to wear an all-white uniform. This determination was accepted by the regional and international federations, so if one day there is a game between São Cristóvão and Real Madrid of Spain, who also plays in white, it would be Real Madrid who would have to change uniforms.
