History

Historians say that the vicar-general or archdeacon, of the parish of Irajá used to travel by train from the city center to the Velho Engenho station (currently Vigário Geral) and, from there, rode on to the headquarters.
The path that the vicar took was known as "Vigário Geral highway" and years later it gave its name to the neighborhood and the train station.
